What is Counselling?
Counselling is often called a talking therapy. Consultations take place in a warm, comfortable, confidential environment. Sometimes family members will also attend, usually though, it is a one to one meeting between a therapist and a client.
Counselling consultations last up to 50 minutes. During that time I will support you in talking through and exploring different aspects of your life.
Sometimes simply being able to 'offload' in a safe and confidential place can be helpful. Knowing you will be heard by an unbiased and non-judgemental professional will begin the healing process.
Some clients like to set goals to work towards, and discover new behaviour patterns outside of the therapy. And some clients prefer to work with gaining understanding of who they are or how they fit into their world right now.
There is no wrong or right about what you choose to bring to a consultation. If it is bothering you enough to feel you want to mention it, that is what you need to bring.
I am experienced in offering CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). This offers ways of discovering old patterns of behaviour we often find ourselves repeating. By recognising how our thoughts and beliefs propel us to act, it is possible to find alternative choices in how we live our lives.
